It has been one month since the release of A Matter of Trust on Amazon! This is my first published full length novel and I’ve decided to mark it’s one month birthday with a give away. So leave a comment for your chance to win a PDF of A Matter of Trust.

Blurb: A Matter of Trust by MJ Flournoy

Her paranormal abilities had always caused her grief. But can they save the life of a kidnapped child and the man she loves?

Jolie Wyngate is a middle school teacher with an extraordinary gift—or is it a curse? Throughout her life, she’s been never been sure. Now, when she is implicated in the kidnapping of a child, the ultimate value of her powers will be put to the test.

Mac Carlson, former Navy SEAL and security expert, is tasked with rescuing the kidnapped girl, Rachael Anne. From the moment he meets Jolie, his suspicious and protective nature sets its sights on her as a prime suspect. Can Jolie clear her name and gain this man’s hard-won trust?

More importantly, can she save the girl before time runs out? She won’t be able to do it without her psychic abilities—but Mac has a hard enough time trusting Jolie as it is, let alone trusting her powers to lead them to Rachael Anne.

As Mac and Jolie realize they have no choice but to work as a team—and as they slowly warm to each other in the process—they realize they have a new problem: the kidnapper has set his sights on Jolie. Now Jolie will need all of her abilities, and all of Mac’s strength and skill, to stay out of the kidnapper’s hands and bring Rachael Anne back home.

Excerpt: A Matter of Trust by MJ Flournoy

“Hell.” Mac Carlson hit speed dial for a second time, one white knuckled hand gripped the
steering wheel. Crap like this didn’t happen on his watch. Carlson Group, though new in
Atlanta, ranked number one in the security business.
He punched speed dial for the third time and swerved to miss a car that pulled out in front of
him. He swore at the driver and flipped him off. The idiot would have killed a less skilled
driver. Why didn’t they answer the damned phone?
The Knights’ alarm had activated and then fallen silent. Why? Mac had dropped Allen
Knight off earlier at a meeting downtown. Only Knight’s wife and daughter stayed home, along
with the family’s personal security, of course.
Could be a false alarm. Yeah, right. Like the newly installed multi-faceted security system
all malfunctioned at once, no chance. Besides, Mac trusted his instincts and alarm bells were
jangling through every cell of his being. His gut said this was real, and it wasn’t going to be
pretty.
”Answer the phone.”
Where the hell was security? If Allen had allowed him to handpick the on-premise security
team this wouldn’t be happening. Mac pounded his fist on the steering wheel. At his suggestion,
Allen Knight had switched to Longfield Technology for electronic security, but he’d held back
when Mac pushed to replace the security team, too.
The mini control module mounted on the dash remained blank. Longfield damned well better
have a good explanation for this snafu. Mac had recommended Longfield over Connard because
of Longfield’s superior technology and special skills.
Gripping the steering wheel with one hand, he used the other to whack the module. It
remained blank, dead like a tagged Iraqi sniper. He tried a fourth number on speed dial.
Nothing. The security team should have been changed. After this they would be, he’d see to
that.
The coal-black SUV sped down Peachtree Street, suppressed power throbbing beneath the
hood. Mac turned onto West Paces Ferry Road. He opened her up, speeding past the Governor’s
mansion, and continued west toward the Knight estate. High wrought-iron gates marked the
entry.
Gates that should have been closed stood open, allowing anyone entry.
Crap, this was bad, real bad.
He parked the SUV near the barn that housed Knight’s exotic car collection, pulled his Glock
from the side pocket of the door and slid from the seat. Mac knelt beside the vehicle. His
special forces training decreeing caution, he inched along the wall.
Crouching low, he crept toward the house. Body flattened against the barn wall he rounded
the corner, Glock held ready.
He found the first body on the lawn outside the house. The second lay sprawled in the garage,
just outside the kitchen door. The security team. Both had a single gunshot to the back of the
head. His fifth speed dial was to 911.
“Damn,” Mac cursed. No time to wait for back up, he had to find Mrs. Knight and Rachael
Anne, now.
Body tense and weapon drawn, he entered through the open mudroom door.
Professional security guards wouldn’t have been taken out so easily. He’d warned Knight that
as a high-profile executive, he and his family were prime targets.
Mac hugged the garage wall and advanced. Inside more chaos reigned – showroom perfect
kitchen trashed, dishes smashed across the floor, living room furniture overturned and shoved
askew.
Worse, the petite body of Lora Knight sprawled on the polished marble floor in front of the
wide sweeping stairs that led to the upstairs bedrooms.
He switched the Glock to his left hand and knelt, touching his fingers to her throat. Some of
the tension left him when he felt a steady pulse.
Caution and dread brought a steely determination to Mac’s steps. Slowly he climbed the stairs
headed toward the child’s room.A_Matter_Of_Trust_Final_LARGE

Today I’m featuring Mary Marvella

Mary Marvella is a true Southern Storyteller. Let me tell you a little about her:

About Mary Marvella

Mary has been a storyteller for as long as she can remember. She made up stories for the other children and created the details for their “play like” or “let’s pretend” games. Sometimes the details were so real they scared Mary.

Mary was born in Augusta, Georgia to two eighteen-year olds. Her daddy, a young Mississippi man, was stationed at Camp Gordon and fell in love with a young girl selling flowers. Look for details in her blogs.

Mary graduated from Mercer University where her mama worked in the library. Her mama started working there when Mary’s daddy went to college to become a preacher and a teacher. Mary taught language arts for 15 years, perfect for her BA in English. Her M.Ed in Counseling served her well during her years as a school counselor and as a teacher later.

Now she tutors, teaches writers, and edits. Her inner English teacher loves the editing part. Mary helped her husband photograph hundreds of weddings. Her daughter is her cover artist now. Danielle was raised in the photography business. She doesn’t read Mary’s books. Something about TMI.

Protective Instincts
They met because he had premonitions and she was in peril. But you will never believe why they fell in love. Paranormal romance at its best.

After mourning the loss of her husband, Brit Roberts manages to pick up her life as a teacher for a rural Georgia High school. Things are fine until anonymous phone calls turn creepy and her life is endangered. It’s not until Sam Samuels, shows up to check on her that she finds a little peace, if not a slight attraction to the handsome yet meddling security specialist.

Sam Samuels isn’t just the father of one of Ms. Robert’s students, he’s a man with premonitions so strong, they make him ill. So when he meets his son’s teacher and pain kicks in, he knows something’s awry but can’t put his finger on it until he interrupts an attempt to kill the teacher. Sam makes it his personal goal to protect her, only he didn’t count on falling for her.

Someone wants Brit, and now Sam, dead too. Could the death of her ex husband be part of the reason? Can Brit and Sam navigate a relationship despite both of their headstrong natures?

Welcome Author Joanne Myers

I have a treat for you today. Please help me welcome Joanne Myers.

Joanne, can you tell us something about yourself. Something that no one knows about your writing?

My most interesting writing quirk is I need the radio on. I just cant concentrate without easy listening music. My lated release is Wicked Intentions, due out late October. It is a paranorma/mystery anthology. The easies thing about being a writer is that almost anything you write makes sense and can be a story. The hardest about being a writer is I occasionally get writers block. When that happens I take a break from writing and concentrate on my painting. My favorite genre to write about is non fiction true crime because it happened to someone. Someone lived through something horrific. The oddest thing on my desk is the numerous papers with a coffee stain on them. myphotoapr2011

Joanne, tells us about yourself.

I hail from the famous Hocking Hills region of southeastern Ohio. I have worked in the blue-collar industry most of my life. Besides having several novels under my belt, I also canvass paint.
When not busy with hobbies or working outside the home, I spend time with relatives, my dogs Jasmine and Scooter, and volunteer my time within the community. I am a member of the Hocking Hill’s Arts and Craftsmen Association, The Hocking County Historical Society and Museum, and the Hocking Hills Regional Welcome Center. I believe in family values and following your dreams.

Can you share a little about your latest book?

BLURB: When two dismembered torsos wash up on the banks of the local river in the small industrial town of Pleasant Valley, residents are horrified. Between contradicting statements, police ineptitude, lust, lies, manipulation, incest, the motorcycle gang The Devil’s Disciples, crooked cops, and a botched crime scene, everyone becomes a suspect.
The young beautiful Jackie Reeves, a registered nurse, believes the killer is a man from her past. She contacts the dangerously handsome FBI Agent Walker Harmon. An arrest is made, but Harmon and Jackie believe an innocent man is being railroaded by local cops. Determined to find the truth, before anymore killings, Agent Harmon and Jackie are forced to run a gauntlet of deep trouble and turmoil, which marks them for death.

??????????????????????
Now for the good part, do you have an excerpt for us?

EXCERPT: Undaunted and short on patience, the agent stared at the fat jerk sitting before him gleefully puffing on a cigar, most likely homegrown in Detroit, Michigan, not Cuba. “I attend the Kingdom Hall on occasion,” he said.
“Well most of us like Malloy. He’s helped rid this town of criminals. He was a volunteer firefighter, and his wife cooks for the annual policeman’s ball. Hell, Malloy even coached volleyball for the kids when he wuz younger. Now a person who does that ain’t all bad,” the chief declared.
Barstow’s sudden burst of energy to safeguard his fishy friend, picqued Harmon’s interest. What had Malloy done? He decided he wasn’t leaving until he had the full, sordid story.
“So you and Malloy are pals, and he did something he couldn’t get out of, and you tried to salvage his job, but the big shots said, ‘No!’ Is that how it went?” Harmon asked.
“Yeah, Malloy did somethin’ real stupid.”
“I’m listening,” Harmon replied.
“The rumors of Malloy allowin’ his friends and family members to snoop through the cornfield, and photograph the area after the victims were removed, was true. Everyone is curious about this crime. Nothin’ this big ever happened in this town before, and the pictures were for souvenirs, you know. Then after the limbs were removed, he brought in a back hoe, and tore up the whole damned crime scene, involving Thomas.” The chief growled in disgust.
“Yeah, that was stupid,” Harmon said. “So Malloy’s unethical conduct was the reason the disciplinary board was in session?”
“Yep, they made their decision this mornin’,” the chief said. “He’s out. There was nothin’ I could do for him.”
“You’d think a cop with over twenty years’ experience would demonstrate better reasoning then destroy evidence. Unless he’s covering his own tracks,” Harmon said realizing what he was implying. “Do you believe Malloy committed the murders?”
“Now, I didn’t say that. A lot of officers were on this case, so a lot of mistakes happened. We never dealt with this type crime before. Many might have made the same mistakes Malloy did.”
Dismissing the chief’s excuses for Malloy’s incompetence, Harmon demanded an answer. He was tired of being duped by the local cops and wanted the truth, and wanted it now. Standing and placing both palms on the chief’s shiny desk, the agent looked the chief square in his squinty brown eyes and said, “Cough it up, Chief! There’s more to it then that. If
there were numerous mistakes made by officers other then Malloy, why was he the only one kicked off the force? Now spit it out! What the hell did Malloy do?”
“All right, all right!” the chief whined, “Malloy screwed the dead girl three weeks before she was killed–and got caught!”
The Agent was speechless. Walking to the window overlooking Main Street, he stared vacantly. Hadn’t one of our witnesses suggested something like that? But–with the crisp wind howling, the citizens dining in the local cafés, others window shopping for Christmas or starting their shift at the town’s businesses–this seems unreal. How can such a seemingly sweet country town be so full of bad apples, savage murders, police misconduct and corruption, evidence tampering? This town is certainly no Mayberry, thought Harmon.

Another great 5 star review of A Matter of Trust
A Great Novel for Any Season’s Reading
Flournoy has crafted a novel that puts the reader in the middle of the action on the first page. The plot twists through secrets, deceptions and turns that hold the reader enthralled until the last word is read.
A Matter of Trust balances mystery and romance as the reader follows Mac Carlson and Jolie Wyngate as they learn to trust each other and work together blending his special forces training and her unique insight to help find a kidnapped child and solve the murder of Mac’s partner.
Flournoy brings the setting to life with details about the city of Atlanta. At no point does the story ring untrue. I was drawn in and held captive until I reached the end. Then I wanted more. Hopefully Flournoy will continue to write and perhaps give us more of Mac and Jolie.

Moonlight & Magnolias 2013

The excitement is building, tonight Georgia Romance Writer’s will bestow their prestigious Maggie award to the brightest and best of the Romance industry. The program will begin with the unpublished division and progress through each category until, finally it reaches the published categories.

If you’ve never been to Moonlight & Magnolias Writer’s Conference, you don’t know what you are missing. I love Moonlight & Magnolias. I cut my writing teeth at M&M! I attended my very first M&M way back in the stone age. Or the 80’s anyway. For years I attended every year. M&M was in fact, the high light of my year. For fifteen years I attended GRW meetings and M&M faithfull without missing a single one. It was the wind beneath my wings, the life in my fiction. It made my soul sing.

Then life got in the way and I allowed it to do so. For way too many years, I allowed “life” to keep me away from writing and the organization I loved. My life was not the same, there was something missing. I was not complete. I missed my friends and fellow writers.

Finally, I found my way back into the fold. My life returned to normal, the sun began to shine again and I was able to write.

In early 2013 I sold my first book. I don’t think I would have done that if I hadn’t returned to my friends in GRW. Friends who understand when I say there are people talking in my head. Friends who don’t call for the men in the white suites because they think I’m losing it. Friends who understand the special anguish and pleasure a writer feels as they open a metaphorical vein and spill words onto paper or computer screen.

Do you have the support of a great writers group? If not, then take thyself out and find one! Now, I’ve got to go, it’s almost time for the Maggie Awards.

Happy Writing!

Angelina jolie, author, medication for shingles, pain, Shingles, writer

Have you ever had Shingles? OMG, I hope the answer is no! If you answered yes, then you know how horrid they are. Please, if are over fifty and had chickenpox as a child, please, please, go get the vaccine! Shingles are terrible!

How do I know? I’ve been battling them for more than two weeks, that’s how. It started out innocently enough with a sudden stinging and itching in my right eye. That progressed to a full blown allergy attack that left my eye blood red and swollen. Next came the itches, felt like things were crawling over my face. The least little thing would set it off. A stray hair blowing across my cheek would lead to the feeling of ants marching across my face. Then last Friday, it progressed to small red splotches on my cheek, under my eye and on my lip. The sploches were accompanied by incredible shooting pains. Everywhere there was a red splotch, there was pain.

By Saturday morning the blisters had appeared. At this point my dear husband, sensible man that he is, intervened and insisted I go to the doctor.

I headed to the doctor and upon taking a look at my face and hearing my symptoms, he pronounced it Shingles. His warning, it’s going to be worse before it gets better.

He gave me an anti-viral medication and sent me home with instructions to see my regular doctor the following week.

What a weekend. Angelina Jolie had nothing on me in the lips department, well on the right side, anyway. My top lip swelled to three times it normal size and small blisters popped out. The red spot beneath my eye progressed to a blister and sent shooting pains up through my eye. My cheek hurt, very skin hurt. But the worse was my teeth. Every nerve in my mouth felt exposed, it was like having at least 20 absessed teeth at once.

I won’t go on, you get the get the idea. If you have never had Shingles, go to your doctor and ask for the vaccination! Now, today, you never know when these sneaky little bastards will attack.

Had Shingles? Have you taken the vaccine? No, what are you waiting for, another attack? If you are over 50 they will give you the vaccine. But you have to ask. Me, I’m counting the days until I can get the vaccine!
